Thomas is a respected neurosurgeon who suddenly finds himself confronted with the limits of his own abilities when he begins experiencing seizures that cause his hands to tremble. Driven by paranoia and fear, he refuses to show any weakness, fearing that it would jeopardize his status—a status he desperately needs to justify his own existence. Yet it becomes increasingly clear that he should no longer be operating. Afraid of losing his job and, with it, his entire sense of purpose, Thomas decides to hide his seizures from his colleagues. As he embarks on an odyssey through the hospital, he is confronted with a future to which he no longer belongs, flirts with death, and proves his skills one last time at a farewell party for a longtime colleague. In the end, Thomas enters the operating room, believing he has no other choice—deep down, knowing full well that he cannot justify it.
