Johann Kunz Nierade was born in Dresden and grew up among misty riverbanks and small streams.
Long before he knew what cinematography truly meant, he was already experimenting with mini-video, his friends in front of the camera – capturing moments that never quite fit the frame, but ultimately yielded something. Today, he is studying cinematography at the KONRAD WOLF Film University Babelsberg, where he is continually refining his visual language.
His works often explore the fragile boundary between reality and illusion, between comfort and discomfort. Whether in feature films, experimental formats, or music videos – Johann is fascinated by images that have a lasting impact and questions that remain unanswered.
